One of the most irritating things I came across recently was the default ‘Delta Search’ option on Google Chrome. No matter what you do it won’t go away. Recently a friend was having a trouble with it and couldn’t figure out how to turn it off.
Delta Search is a default add-on or an extension that gets ‘added’ to your browser when you install a new (usually crappy) software. It bullies its way into Google Chrome and makes itself the default search engine. And it won’t even let you use Google search.
I found some very useful information on this Yahoo Answers page.
So to remove Delta Search from Google Chrome, you can follow these very easy steps:
1. Open Google Chrome
2. In the URL field (where you key in the web address like http://www.google.com), type chrome://extensions
3. The page will show you all the add-ons / extensions running on Google Chrome, including Delta Search
4. Next to Delta Search ‘Uncheck’ the Enabled box, click on the Garbage bin (‘Remove from Chrome’) icon and confirm removal
5. That’s it! Delta Search has been removed from Google Chrome
These five steps helped my friend in getting rid of the irritating add-on. Hope they help you too.
And while you are on the Extensions page, it would be a good idea to disable and remove suspicious looking add-ons that you don’t really want running on Chrome.
Update
The other option for deleting Delta Search should have been put up earlier but here goes:
1. Open Google Chrome
2. Click on the ‘Customize and control Google Chrome’ icon. This is the ‘triple bar’ icon on the top right, immediately below the ‘Close’ icon.
3. In the menu that opens, scroll down to ‘Tools’ and in the next sub-menu, click on ‘Extensions’
4. A new tab window with all the extensions will open
5. The last step is to delete Delta Search
Hope this helps.
Another Update
I have received comments from ‘The Delta Search Customer Service Department’. According to them they are aggrieved at reading so many comments from people having problems with Delta Search. Now they do claim to have their own solutions but want people to send them emails and they want to address each query individually. I am unsure if that’s a hot idea. Why should we share our emails IDs and details with Delta Search? What the company can really do is create a simple web-page outlining the steps and put it up on their website. I think that’s the best thing to do, like what most responsible companies would do.
You can read more here: http://www.pccaretips.com/blog/how-to-get-rid-of-delta-search-delta-search-com-virus.html
You will find a detailed compendium. Hope it will help you.
Thank you so, so much! Be gone Delta you have been truly irritating. Google Chrome reigns once more… xx
One additional tip which had me frustrated for a while. Make sure you reboot after making these changes, especially after uninstalling the Delta program. If you don’t, the Delta home page will keep reappearing despite following the instructions in the other posts.
OK!! I too went everywhere and could not find the delta search devil… UNTIL I went into SETTINGS. Then On Start Up (which is right below Sign In). There are 3 bubbles, the last one OPEN A SPECIFIC PAGE OR SET OF PAGES… Click on the blue Set Pages.
This is where I finally found delta search. Change it to http://www.google.com and click done. That finally did it for me, hope it helps.
Thanks to DANNY from Nov. 1st!!!
here is the solution:
Open Google Chrome, click on wench icon, go to settings and choose ‘Manage search engines’. Change search engine to google or other and delete Delta Search from the list. Then Go to section “On start” and make sure you get blank page while creating new tab.
Delta Search is definitely running on this computer but it’s not coming up on the extensions in google chrome
Hi!
I can’t uninstall the delta search/delta toolbar in the control panel because it’s not there, and also it’s not in the extensions, I have also changed the settings in chrome, on startup, appearance, and manage search engines, I already put google.com, but every time I open Chrome, the delta search is still there!!
Please help!
Thanks!
i have done everything that is recommended on this website , no delta shows on my extensions, no tool bars in control panel, I have even used Adwcleaner still it doesn’t work that piece of shit is still there please tell me what should i do?
Thank you dear friend it removed.
Thank You Dear Friend.
You really are a genius.
God Bless You.
If you try to uninstall the program it says “You do not have enough privileges to uninstall” even if you are running as administrator
i have deleted the delta search extension but still it open up.
plzzz HELP 😦
None of these have worked for me. I have deleted the extension, the on start up option, on the programs and features and on the home page option… Somebody please help!!
Hi mate i was having a nightmare with this crap(delta) as well even after deleting it from the add and remove in control panel it was still there,i tried the extensions but it wasn’t there so couldnt do it that way either, so all i did was go to settings and changed the default browser from delta back to google.com and that’s worked fine…. good luck 🙂
set a home page button and set it to google.com instead going to new tab use that house logo and click on it this will bring up google.com simple
With the hassle I have had removing the utter junk dumped on other people’s computers, if I worked for Delta Customer Services I would take a 9mm and go out in the Car lot….utter vermin.
I tried all the things listed above. That Delta still shows up on new tab pages. I removed Delta from the programs list, removed it from Chrome, removed it from the list of search engines. Some how that evil thing still there!
This didnt work for me. I did this ages ago, and when i go to settings and remove delta search as a default start up page, it stays away for about 2 browsing sessions and then it comes back. I still need help.
Hey Tiffany. It haven’t worked for me as well, but here what you can still do:
1. Make sure you have uninstalled “Delta” throught “Windows Start Menu(that little space at the left bottom corner) (If you want to uninstall “Delta” you’ll have to go start-control panel-Add or remove programs. Then You’ll find “delta” icon. You need to press remove button and follow the instructions.
2.Make sure you’ve deleted “delta” extension from Google Chrome (“three stripes menu”[sorry I don’t know how it calls :D] then press “tools” and find “extensions”)
3.If “Delta” is still on Google chrome you can go to chrome://settings/searchEngines you’ll probably see that there are lots of search engines like bing, yahoo, google and delta. what you need to do is to press that cross on the end of the line where “delta” search engine is. and that’s it, you have deleted “delta”
4. I’m not sure this is needed but you can still change the main page of Chrome. go to chrome://settings/startup and you should see “delta search” little bit further you should see “http://www1.delta-search.com/babsrc=…..” if you’d move your mouse to the end of that link you should see little cross. press that. that’s it. You have deleted “delta” successfully. Let me know if this helped you 🙂
P.S. sorry for my grammar and punctual mistakes 😀
I have tried everything there is on this page. Let’s hope some of them work, in the meantime, I would really like to express my frustration with the fact that there are people out there who make it their mission to annoy and bully innocent web-surfers into using their very unfriendly, unnecessary piece of sh*t search engine. Sorry for any grammar mistakes.
Any other ideas. I did all that and still Delta is there. I even specified the path to google in the appearances.
Hi!
Sorry for bumping a thread/post that is three months old but here is my problem:
I have tried the steps outlined in the guide and found that delta-search does not appear in either the control panels remove programs nor does removal from extensions in google chrome work.
Any ideas?
/Oskar
1. Open Google Chrome
2. Click on the ‘Customize and control Google Chrome’ icon. This is the ‘triple bar’ icon on the top right, immediately below the ‘Close’ icon.
3.In settings , scroll to ” On Start up” section. Highlight , ” Open a specific page or set of pages ” .Then click on ,”set pages”. From there you can deselect Deltasearch .
4. Enjoy and be happy 🙂

i tried everything to remove it but it was always there.
Then finally i found another way.
>click on triple bar on top right corner
>settings
>under appearance
>uncheck “show home Button”
>you can also change home button from delta.search to Google.
i hope this will help you if you are experiencing what i experienced
Thanks mo this has worked ok. I also changed the address on the show home button to google and then ticked the show home box again.
Hey presto google as my default search engine.
This worked for me as well as uninstalling delta search. Thanks.
Not showing up in extensions
If you still have problems go to the solution given by mo on the 16 feb 2013. it works.
Good show my man,Win.#7 Go to 3 bar marker on upper R side; go to settings;go to history; remove [Delta Search] icon.It worked for me..Joe…Thank You
Thanks. The post should have listed all the steps. It has been updated now.
I’m not finding Delta Search in my extensions, which is annoying me to no end. Still, every single time I open my Google Chrome I get ‘Delta Search’ right off the bat. I’m going to ned yet another solution. v_v;
…Ah, I think I’ve found the solution for myself. Under ‘Settings’ I have managed to change what search engine my URL bar defaults to (I switched it back to Google, of course), and I can also change which page Chrome opens to. (I checked ‘Open the New Tab page’.) All which bugged me about Delta Search has now been erased…I hope. It is my wish that this may help others as well.
Thanks. The post has also been updated.
I wrongly deleted all the add-ons / extensions running on Google Chrome, including Delta Search from chrome but still i get default ‘Delta Search’ option on Google Chrome when i open google chrome No matter what you do it won’t go away.
Hope you have been able to get rid of Delta Search by now. If not, it will be a new case where even deleting it from Extensions doesn’t seem to work.
